Gyuto chef knife by Prime Artisan Knives of Te Tai Tokerau, Aotearoa

Regular price $1,149.00

A gyuto chef knife by Prime Artisan Knives. Gyuto is a popular Japanese style chef knife: the hefty blade is designed to work hard, slicing and dicing vegetables as well as portioning proteins.

The blade is forged from W2 tool steel, with a mānuka timber handle and a river mātai collar. It comes in a bespoke leather sheath.

Total length 36cm, blade 20cm.

A.J. Prime is a Māori artisan and the person behind Prime Artisan Knives. Based in Te Tai Tokerau Northland, A.J. is one of only a handful of full-time bladesmiths in Aotearoa. He has been making knives since 2015 and has become one of the most respected knife makers in the country, with his work highly sought after.

Care: Hand wash in warm soapy water and dry straight away. Never put it in the dishwasher. Oil the blade occasionally with a little olive or vegetable oil to protect against rust. Carbon steel develops a natural patina with use. Have it professionally sharpened about once a year, or whenever it starts to feel dull. In Christchurch we recommend KASS Sharpening Services on St Asaph Street.
