Huia greeting card by Kathryn Furniss of Nelson, New Zealand

Kathryn Furniss’s ‘I Adore You’ shows two huia circling beneath a full moon, beaks almost touching, over soft green hills. Huia were famous for their devoted pairs, and the male and female even had differently shaped beaks. Their white-tipped tail feathers were treasured taonga, worn by rangatira. The birds have been extinct since the early 1900s, so this painting is a quiet celebration of something precious.

Kathryn is a self-taught painter from Nelson. She layers abstract washes with fine detail in acrylic and ink, telling stories of protection, journeys and the ties between past and present. Made in New Zealand, includes a white envelope.
