Fire dog hand forged in Darfield, New Zealand

Regular price $690.00

An old fashioned fire dog, also known as an andiron, made new by our local blacksmith Christo in handforged steel. Fire dogs are traditionally used in open fireplaces, they have an upright rod with a beam behind on which the fire is built and stoked. Using a fire dog results in better air circulation under the wood meaning better burning and less smoke. The upright guard keeps the fire in place as the logs burn and settle.

Available singly but best used as a pair so you can stack logs across two beams and adjust the size of the fire to suit by placing the firedogs closer together or further apart.

See Christo's other work including fire tools here, all available exclusively at Frances Nation.

Dimensions: 44cm high x 24cm wide x 39cm deep.
