A hand-woven willow basket made by Mike Lilian, one of New Zealand's best willow weavers, using willow grown in Kakanui.
The Périgord style is a spiral weave that originated in Burkina Faso and made its way to the Dordogne region of southern France, where it's used for gathering truffles and potatoes. The technique is still alive and well (and carefully guarded) in the Dordogne, where Mike studied it several years ago.
Use it to gather fruit, vegetables and flowers, to present food and gifts, or to store craft items. It also looks lovely hanging on a wall.
Each one is unique and the colour of the willow will vary. Please note the baskets we currently have in stock are more of a dark brown than the reddish brown pictured.
