A unique hand woven basket made by Mike Lilian, one of New Zealand's best willow weavers, using Kakanui grown willows. The Périgord style is a beautiful spiral weave originating in Burkina Faso and making its way to the Dordogne region of Southern France, where it is used as a basket for gathering truffles and potatoes. The technique is still alive and well (and carefully guarded) in Dordogne (where the best truffles come from), where Mike studied the process several years ago.
Use this basket to gather fruit and vegetables, flowers, to present food and gifts, or to store craft items. These also look beautiful hanging on a wall.
Each one unique, colour of willow will vary. Please note the baskets we currently have in stock are more of a dark brown than the reddish brown pictured.
